Deleting your app account
How to delete your account, what gets removed, and how long it takes.

Who this page is for
This page is for people using a mobile or web app that Softwhale Studio SRL, trading as Softwhale, builds and operates. It explains how to have your account and the personal data attached to it deleted.
If you are using an app we built for a client who operates it themselves, that client is the data controller and their own privacy policy applies. Write to us anyway if you are not sure which case you are in — we will tell you who to ask.
How to request deletion
If the app offers account deletion in its settings, use that — it is the fastest route and needs nothing from us. Otherwise, email hello@softwhale.be from the address associated with your account and ask for your account to be deleted. Tell us which app you are writing about.
We may need to confirm you are the account holder before acting, which normally means replying from the registered email address. We will not ask you for a password or payment details in order to verify a deletion request.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes the account itself and the personal data held against it, including:
- your profile — name, email address, and any details you added yourself
- the content you created in the app
- your settings and preferences
- device identifiers and push notification tokens linked to your account
Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore an account or its content afterwards, so export anything you want to keep before you ask.
What we keep, and why
A small amount of data outlives the account, because deleting it would put us in breach of another obligation:
- invoices and payment records, where Belgian bookkeeping law requires us to keep them
- records needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, for as long as that claim is live
- aggregated statistics that no longer identify you and cannot be traced back to you
Anything retained on these grounds is kept for that purpose alone and deleted once the obligation ends.
How long it takes
We action deletion requests within thirty days of receiving them, and normally much sooner. Copies inside our encrypted backups are removed as those backups age out of rotation, which takes up to a further thirty days; during that window they are not accessible to the running app.
Your other rights
Deletion is one of several rights the GDPR gives you — you can also ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, or object to a particular use. Our privacy policy explains all of them. For anything at all, email hello@softwhale.be and a person will answer.
